CE Corner with Ken

May/June

I would like to first recognize those individuals who have assisted with many of the CE activities for the past two months:

  • Thank you to Kathleen Ford and Lacy Schimmel for facilitating the First Communion Training and to Jane Bies for making the beautiful cake.
  • Thank you to Amy Wittman, Nancy Siewert, Lacy Schimmel, Kathleen Ford, and Deb Gauthier for leading in the teaching of Sunday School this past calendar year.
  • Thank you to the CE Committee for all the work that you did in coordinating the Lenten activities and the Pancake/Porkie Brunch on April 30th.
  • Thank you to those who donated clothing for the “Cat Closet” at Green Bay West High School. They were delivered and very much appreciated by West High.

DSC05862-optA total of $375 was raised for the Presbyterian Pantry by the youth who were involved in the 30-Hour Famine on April 21-22. Way to go!

Sign-up for the “Nibble & Paint with Patcee” Event on Saturday, May 20th at 2:00 p.m.  This is for everyone age 11 and up and is a tribute to Mary Dee Dupont. Mary Dee had given many of the art supplies to Patcee, and those will be used that day. Patcee is asking participants to bring a snack to share. This should be a relaxing and wonderful afternoon of fellowship, food, and a painting that you get to take home with you.

Graduation Sunday is scheduled for June 11th during which we will honor our four High School graduates, Taylor Wittman, Olivia Crooks, Audrey Rasmussen, and Christian Gehri as part of our worship, with a special coffee hour afterward.

VBS-HeroCentralSave the Date! – Vacation Bible School is scheduled for August 1-3 from 5:30-8:00 p.m., with the theme of “Hero Central”. We will be focusing on local heroes with games, crafts, music and fun along with a surprise guest. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know.

The National Day of Prayer is May 4th and everyone is invited to tie a piece of yarn that expresses a prayer from your heart on the Prayer Net located outside in front of church throughout the month of May.

Softball is right around the corner and a great time to come play or cheer on our team at the Cornerstone Fields in De Pere on Sunday evenings.

I will continue to be in the office on Tuesdays and can be reached at 437-8121 or by e-mail at ce@firstpresgreenbay.org. Summer in on the Way!

March-April 2017

scripture-quotesDo you believe that we are now in the Season of Lent, a time of renewal?!

The Christian Education Committee has put together a Reflection Guide for the congregation to use throughout this season, based on favorite Scripture passages identified by members of our church family. These guides can be obtained by contacting the church office

risen movieMiracles from Heaven-optThe Committee has also scheduled two movie events during Lent and is inviting the congregation to attend. The first movie is “Miracles from Heaven” scheduled for after worship on March 5th and will also be a potluck. The second movie “Risen” will be shown after Easter on Saturday, April 22nd at 2:00 p.m. with refreshments being provided. This will also be during the Ungabunga Tribe’s 30-Hour Famine Event. Everyone is encouraged to attend a day at the movies this Easter Season.

He Chose the NailsThe Commoners are also having a Lenten study based on the book, “He Chose the Nails” by Max Lucado. This is on Thursday mornings at 11:00 a.m. for anyone interested.

Pastor Randy is offering an Adult Education opportunity on Sunday evenings throughout the month of March, at his home, on “The Meaning of Church Membership” for those from the congregation interested in exploring their responsibilities of church membership. Contact Pastor Randy with any questions.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Souper Bowl of Caring a success with $471 being raised for the Pantry. I understand that all the soups were delicious and tasty with, congratulations going out to Patty Kabacinski for being crowned the Souper Bowl Queen of First Presbyterian Church. You can access the recipes from all of those people who were willing to share here.

Eleven individuals gathered together for the annual Ski Trip to Ski Brule in January, which I heard was a great time.

“Preparation of Communion” training for 2nd and 3rd graders is scheduled for Saturday, April 1st from 9:00 a.m. to noon, with First Communion scheduled for Sunday, April 2nd during worship. It is asked that parents who would like their children involved in this event RSVP to the church by March 15th, if they haven’t already done so.

Sunday School will be ending on April 30th and the congregation is invited to a Pancake and Porkie Luncheon in Banner Hall following worship that day. The luncheon will be to celebrate another successful year of Sunday School. Thank you to Amy Wittman, Nancy Siewert, Lacy Schimmel, Kathleen Ford, and Deb Gauthier for leading the teaching of Sunday School this past year.
