January-February 2017

20161127_frosting cookies-optWhat a wonderful Advent Season we had here at the church, starting with the Advent Fun Day, leading the Adult Advent Study with Nancy Blashka, being inspired during our World wrapped gifts-optAIDS Day service, having coffee outside with our Pantry guests, watching the Christmas Pageant practice, listening to the Christmas Cantata, witnessing the generosity of our congregation for the Christmas Prayer baskets for our three families from Tank School, and the grand finale of a great Christmas Pageant organized by Mary Steeno, Jill Stenson and Amy Wittman, as well as a Christmas Day service featuring singing, organ, and a brass quintet.

Believe it or not, the CE Committee is starting to focus on Lent – which is right around the corner.  Watch for further announcements as details are being worked out by this committee.  The congregation continues to be invited to attend the All-Church Bible Study held on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday School kids logoThere will not be Sunday School during the month of January and will start up again on February 12th. I am looking for teachers for March and April if anyone is inspired to share their gifts with our children. No experience is needed!

February 2016 ski trip-optLoni and Bobbi are coordinating the annual Youth Ski Trip to Ski Brule scheduled for January 27-28th.  Cost will be $25/person and all youth going need to have their liability forms in prior to January 27th.

We are again holding the “Souper Bowl of Caring” contest and luncheon on Sunday, February 5th after worship. If you have an award winning soup recipe, I would encourage you to enter it for the chance to wear the crown of Souper Bowl King or Queen of First Presbyterian Church. Last year, we raised over $500 for the Pantry.

Even though it is cold and snowy now, the CE Committee encourages parents to explore sending their children to camp this summer. I have information regarding the 2017 schedule for Pilgrim Center in Green Lake, WI; Moon Beach in St. Germain, WI: and Camp Amnicon in Superior, WI.  Financial assistance is available through the Winnebago Presbytery and the church.  See me if you have any questions.

I will continue to be in the office on Tuesdays and can be reached at 437-8121 or by e-mail at ce@firstpresgreenbay.org.
