The serving ministries of First Presbyterian Church are outwardly focused on the needs in our community and world. The compassion and care of Christ is also expressed inwardly to the sick, those grieving, those isolated in their homes or care facilities or those going through difficult times.
Deacons are ordained/lay people in the church whose calling "as set forth in scripture is one of sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ." The Deacons visit the sick, home-bound and those in care facilities. They regularly coordinate meals for those who have been hospitalized or for families dealing with the death of a loved one.
Stephen Ministers are lay-people who receive 50 hours of training in listening and attending skills. This one-to-one ministry is described as "Christ caring for people through people." This ministry is for those who are going through a difficult or transitional time in their lives.
