Local Mission
Local Mission

Every member at First Presbyterian Church is challenged to discover their personal mission. In many quiet and unassuming ways, our members volunteer their time and talents for the church and for various non-profit organizations in the community,

The Outreach Committee facilitates efforts to serve the neighborhood and the area through its support of the Presbyterian Food Pantry, its outreach to students at Tank Elementary School, and hosting a neighborhood picnic every summer at the Cup O' Joy Christian coffeehouse, In addition, the Committee has developed connections with the "Eat Well" program at the Mauthe Center at UWGB and with St. John  the Evangelist Homeless Shelter (along with our Deacons). There are plenty of opportunities to be involved!

Feed My Starving Children

Feed My Starving Children logo 2It's time to start thinking about Feed My Starving Children! Our church again has the privilege of partnering with ten other Green Bay churches to pack meals that will feed children around the world. In previous years, the meals we packed were sent to Haiti, Liberia, Nicaragua, as well as other places. Each participating church has representatives forming a "partner board" which meets throughout the year to make plans for the big event - the Mobile Pack - which this year will take place October 2-5 at Green Bay Community Church.

This is a huge undertaking, which involves a lot of planning and coordination and, of course, fundraising. This year our goal is to pack one-half million meals! The cost of each meal is twenty-two cents, so you do the math! That's how much our collaborative group needs to raise. Our coin box is ready in the narthex and we're planning some other fundraising events as well. You will be hearing more about various opportunities you will have to participate but for now, please be in prayer for this mission, and register for the 5K Walk/Run.

Tank Elementary School

Tank School cozy kids-optTank Elementary School is one of the most ethnically diverse and needy schools in the Green Bay public school district.

First Presbyterian has "adopted" this school and has a long history of interaction and support that includes reading to students, providing school supplies, collecting hats and mittens, and putting together "Christmas Prayer Baskets" for the neediest of the familes.

Cup O' Joy Summer Picnic

Cup O Joy picnic 7-30-16 (2)-optEvery summer in late July First Presbyterian Church partners with Trinity Lutheran to host a Saturday picnic on the grounds of the Cup O' Joy Christian coffeehouse. We disseminate flyers in the neighborhood, provide games and prizes for the children, and grill hamburgers and hotdogs. Church members provide salads and desserts and volunteer as servers. We will typically serve more than 200 neighbors at this event.

Early Head Start

early head start logoFirst Presbyterian Church has partnered with Early Head Start to provide opportunities for children and their parents to engage in activities outside their home.

Early Head Start staff and clients meet at our church every Tuesday. They use two classrooms and the kitchen. The program serves 40 families in Brown County.

Lifelong Learning Institute

Lifelong learning uwgbWe provide classroom space for seniors to pursue lifelong learning through a program presented by UWGB.

The Lifelong Learning Institute is a program for people who want to keep learning about the past and present, about their world, and about themselves and each other. There are classrooms and instructors, and a lot of interaction, but there are no tests, no grades, and no credits.
