Worldwide Mission

missionbiggie2

Through its General Mission Pledge, First Presbyterian Church supports the national and worldwide mission of the PC(USA). This includes 239 long-term mission workers serving in 63 countries. Our Presbytery has an ongoing partnership with the Presbytery of Uraba in Columbia, South America. Church member and elder Nancy Siewert recently returned from a visit to Colombia.

For 2008, our Mission and Social Concerns Committee has also selected the following three projects to support as Extra Commitment Opportunities.

Extra Commitment Opportunities

 Russia

Boots for Children in Russia

It all started with a television news program. A small child in the Russian far north was asked what he'd like more than anything for Christmas. He replied, "warm boots." Russia's economy continues to struggle, but problems are amplified many times over in Siberia and remote areas of Russia. Food, clothing and other supplies are more difficult to obtain.  First Presbyterian Church’s gift provides warm boots and other clothing to the children and adults in the frozen extremes of Russia.

AIDS Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Africa

The contribution from First Presbyterian Church helps support community-based orphan care programs, providing basic needs including food, clothing, education and medical care and psychosocial development.  We support the African tradition of caring for orphans and vulnerable children in family settings rather than in orphanages.
